Keep Your Floors Looking Beautiful for Years
Wipe Up Spills Immediately
Prevent moisture damage by cleaning up spills as soon as they happen.
Vacuum Smart
Use a vacuum with a hard-surface setting. Always turn off beater bars/brushes to avoid scratching.
No Wet Mopping
Avoid standing water. It can cause cracking, warping, cupping, and discoloration.
No Steam Cleaners
Steam can penetrate and damage wood fibers and the floor’s finish—do not use.
Use Breathable Rugs
Place breathable rugs inside and outside entryways to trap grit, salt, moisture, and debris.✘ Avoid rubber-backed or non-breathable mats.
Kitchen Rug Tips
Place a breathable rug in front of the sink and stove to catch spills and wear.
Dry Rugs Thoroughly
Shake out rugs and dry them completely if they get wet.
Wait Before Adding Rugs to New Floors Wait at least 10 days
after the final coat before placing rugs. Always follow the finish manufacturer's recommendation.
Careful with Rug Pads
Some synthetic rug pads can imprint or damage your floor. Use pads made of natural fibers when possible.
Expect Color Changes
Sunlight can change the color of exposed flooring. Rugs block UV rays and create color differences over time.
Protect Furniture Legs
Use fabric-faced glides to avoid scuffing. Check and clean them regularly.
Avoid Hard-Impact Footwear
Heels, cleats, and sports shoes can dent or damage your floor. Remove them at the door.
Trim Pet Nails
Keep pets’ claws trimmed to prevent scratches.
Lift Heavy Furniture
Never drag it! Always lift or use sliders to avoid damage.
Moving Appliances? Be Careful.
Use appliance glides and wait 3 days after refinishing before putting them back.
Control Humidity
Use a humidifier in winter and a dehumidifier in summer. Wood expands and contracts—stable humidity reduces movement.
Recoat When Needed
When your floor starts looking dull, it’s time for a professional recoat to refresh the finish and protect the wood.
